Gary How the Wades Came to the Midwest Researching the Wade family history has taken me back to North Carolina during the first half of the 18th century. One of the questions I had was, "How did my family end up in Indiana?" Part of the answer to that question comes in the form of a mass-migration of Quakers around 1800. I do know that Royal Wade (my 4th great grandfather), his wife Phebe and several of their children left North Carolina sometime after May 15th, 1800. They were members of the Core Sound Monthly Meeting of Quakers which was located near Beaufort, North Carolina. In December of that same year, they were in southeastern Ohio, in the area around Colerain in what is now Belmont County. I now know the when's and the why's, but am still researching the how's. How did they travel? How did they get to the Ohio Valley, what route did they take? I have researched several migration routes of the period, but still do not have any definite conclusions on the route my family took. This is, of course, a pivotal question for this entire project and I am continuing to look at all resources I can find regarding the migrations of that time period.
